How To Build Mindfulness In Your Day-To-Day Life?

Mindful meditation may seem tough at first as you may struggle to focus on any 1 thought. You may feel you are doing it wrong and get frustrated easily. That is ok. the more you lose focus, the more you will get better at bringing your mind back to the present.

Mindfulness is about recognizing your emotions and learning to let go without obsessing on any particular thought.

Your mind may still wander. Give it time. All you have to practice is bringing your mind back to the present again and again. Follow these techniques for about 10 min a day overall and reap the long-term rewards:-

  • Name your emotions – Allow thoughts to come and go in your mind. Name what you feel for each of these thoughts like ‘joy’ or ‘anger’. Let them go.
  • Right after you wake up – Lie in bed. Focus on inhaling and exhaling. Count the number of times you exhale. Do this for 5 min.
  • 1-min breaks – You can be at your desk, or sit cross-legged on the floor. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing for a minute. Set reminders hourly and take 1-minute mindfulness exercise breaks.
  • Connect to your senses – Savor each morsel instead of gulping down food. Feel the ground beneath your feet when you walk. When you look around, really look – at the shape and color of the object. Listen to the sounds around you.
  • Apps – There are plenty of apps that could set you on the right track. Headspace and Calm are a couple of popular ones you may want to try out.

Take few minutes out of your life each day and change your outlook on problems. Explore your present by teaching your mind to quiet down and accept events as they are unfolding. Give yourself 10 mins a day and see for yourself how your life gets transformed for the better.
